CAD packages are a minimum standard in a modern Architectural and Engineering Practices, with Autodesk's "Autocad" being the market leader. CAD packages are, quite simply, a digital means of technical drafting, be it 2D plans, Elevations, Sections, details etc. or 3D digital mass modelling, by which a volume is applied to the 2 dimensional elements to provide the designer with a digital to scale model of the design. There are many variations of CAD software, such as Autocad, Bentley Microstation, Solidworks etc. each of which has its own specific benefits. However, It is recommended as a student that you should ensure that you utilize Autocad and Microstation extensively as they are the main CAD packages you will encounter in the workplace. They also play host to numerous tools which are generic in other varieties of useful software, meaning that the skills and knowledge you gain may remain transferable for the future.
