Sketchup - Using 3D Text Massing to Represent Volumetric Spaces
Full Video Demonstration Below
1) This is a tutorial on how one can create a concise, informative graphic representing a volumetric diagram of a buildings spaces using the text to describe each spaces use. This is very useful for both sketchbooks and final presentation pieces
2) To Begin, Make sure all of your volumetric representations of various rooms are individually grouped. This allows for easy deletion once your text is modelled.
3) For the Text, Select the 3D Text Tool, Choose the font you want and type the name of the representative space. Then, using the scale, move and rotate tools manipulate the text so that it is the same size as your volumetric block, then delete the block.
4) Simply Repeat the process for all the other volumetric blocks.
5) Finally, add colours, styles and possibly some minor photshop tweaks after you export the graphic from sketchup to reach your desired final image. the style I chose here is suitable for early conceptual imagery, not for final presentation of work.
