Summary of Part 4: The Line Tool
Full Video Demonstration Below
Use the Following guide to learn how to utilise the functionality of the Line Tool in Illustrator:
1) First Select the Line Tool. Like before, click and drag to create linework (Hold shift for horizontal, vertical or 45 degree linework)
2) You may also create a line by clicking once and inputting values to represent length and angle.
3) Press shift to add or remove objects to selection while using the Selection tool
4)To change the line colours, double click the "stroke" and select your desired colour
5) Like the Line Tool, the Arc Tool functions in a similar manner. Click and drag to generate the arc.
6) Alternatively, you can click once on the canvas and change the values in the option box.
7) You may alter the extremity of an arc by pressing the Up or Down arrow keys while dragging (or holding) the left mouse button
8) The spiral tool uses the same means of creation, being the click and drag. The number of segments may be adjusted using the arrows.
9) Three factors dictate a spirals form - Radius, Decay and Segments. Single click the canvas to access these options.
10) Decay values between 65% and 85% are aesthetically best for decorative purposes.
11) The Rectangular Grid tool is much the same as other line tools. Click and drag to create, hold shift for consistent proportions.
12) Ungrouping a grid allows for elements to be removed or altered. Alternatively, the direct selection tool may be used to alter elements.
13) Single Clicking the Canvas brings up the Grid options, which allows the user to input values for the grid creation.
14) The polar Grid tool creates an series of Elipses/Circles which are offset from one another and divided by lines from the centre.
15) Hold shift to keep the X and Y Axis the equal so that a circular Polar Grid may be generated
16) The Polar Grid Tool is useful if it is necessary to create an evenly spaced array of objects surrounding a centre point, like shown.
