Part 10: The Type Tools

1) The Type Tool has numerous function. This video will comprise of the more basic of these function so you can get started using the software asap.
2) The first way to use the type tool is to simply click on the canvas and type. This will continuously type in a linear fashion, and the words are assigned a shape so that they can be manually manipulated and distorted.
3) Click and dragging the type tool will allow you to define a box where your type will fit into. The size of the box may be manipulated, but unlike the first option, the text remains a constant. This is known as a Type Container.
4)Text colour can be changed in the same manner as any other object, by merely double clicking the fill option and choosing your desired colour.
5) Area Type Tool will allow you to type text within the boundaries of a predetermined object, such as the one shown. Simply select the tool, select the boundary of the area in which you want the text to adhere and type away.
6) The Type Path tool works in a similar fashion to the Area Type Tool. Simply select the tool, select the path you wish the text to follow and type.
7) Vertical Type Tool - Simply click on the canvas and it will allow you to type vertically as opposed to horizontally. Typically useful for banner design etc.
8) Vertical Area Type Tool - Same as the Area Type Tool, However the text is typed vertically.
9) Vertical Type on Path Tool - Same as Type on Path Tool, except the text is vertical.
10) To get the Type Character Toolbar, simply go to "Window, Type, Character". This work in the same manner as any character toolbar which is present in all modern word processing software.
