Revit Architecture - Building Information Modelling
Revit Architecture is fast becoming the new international standard for construction design. Revit Architecture is an Architectural Design Program which supplies the designer with information rich, dynamic objects (families) which have real world attributes assigned to them. It is a form of software which is built on the ethos behind BIM (Building Information Modelling), whereby every individual element within the design is assigned real world properties, therefore allowing the designer to digitally analyse a designs performance before construction ever begins. This typically avoids conflict in the construction phases of the project, and generally reduces the cost of large-scale construction projects by 10-15%. As a result, it has now become a legal requirement for public projects in the United States to utilize such software in the early stages of the design process.

There are other variations of BIM which are also widely used, such as Graphisofts Archicad and Bentley BIM, each of which has its positives and negatives compared to competing software packages.
However, due to autodesks monopoly on technical software packages and mass marketting, Revit Architecture is the market leader by a large margin. Therefore, it would be recommended that students should practice Revit, as it will increase their employability on completion of their respective studies.
